Rebuilding after WW II

December 1946

An Extraordinary General meeting was held in the South China Morning Post Board Room on the 30th December, 1946.

It was decided to rehabilitate the Clubhouse and Courts as near as possible to the 1941 standards, and to borrow the necessary funds from the Hong Kong and Shanghai Banking corporation.

It was also decided to discontinue the election of Naval members, and to increase the Entrance fees and subscriptions.

Ordinary Members entrance Fees:

$50 per person, $75 for husband and wife.

1947

The Ladies Recreation Club "Hong Cup - Men's Doubles Handicap" trophy was first awarded. It was won that year by H.J. Armstrong, W.C.Hung for Deacons.

1948

By March 1948, five sand tennis courts, one concrete court and the Clubhouse had been re-constructed. Looking to the future, the LRC decided to build a swimming pool

The second scheme at May Road involves the reconstruction of a portion of the road which was completely blotted out by the Japanese. It is necessary to restore this in order to provide access to a new block of flats.
